Pakistani Cricketers To Play In IPL 2022? Reports Of Ind-Pak T20 Series

Pakistani cricketers’ dream of playing in the IPL may be finally fulfilled in 2022 as rumors of the India-Pakistan bilateral series were reported in the media.

The Pakistani players got their first and the only chance in the first season of Indian Premier League(IPL) way back in 2008. A total of 12 Pakistani players played in the inaugural season of IPL. Since then, it has been a 14-year exile for the Pakistani players. But hopefully the exile might finally be over next year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked to ‘be prepared’ for India-Pakistan bilateral series?

According to a recent article by Geosuper.tv, PCB has been asked to ‘be prepared for a bilateral series between the two countries during this year. An official of the PCB was reported being told to be prepared for the Indo-Pak bilateral T20 series. But when asked by the media, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani denied the rumors of being approached by any BCCI or having any talks between the BCCI and the PCB. Though the board member reportedly admitted that a bilateral series in the coming season might be on the cards.

Actually, media reports have quoted that India and Pakistan can play 3 match T20 series this year. Since the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in India and Pakistan cricket team will visit India for the tournament, the idea of Pakistani players getting entry in the IPL seems plausible.

No Pakistani cricketer played for Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab, and Mumbai Indians

The first season of IPL was played in 2008 with 8 teams. A total of 12 Pakistani cricketers played for 5 teams in the tournament. Then Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), and Mumbai Indians (MI) were the only teams that did not include any Pakistani cricketer. While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played the most number of Pakistani cricketers – 4 in total. Rajasthan Royals (RR) had 3 Pakistani players, while Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) played 2 players each. Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers (DC) team included only 1 i.e. Shahid Afridi.
